Extension IT Plans Upgrade to Office 2010

| 1 Comment

Many Extension-supported computers are currently running Microsoft Office 2007--a software tool that will soon be out of date.  By the end of October, Microsoft will stop releasing software patches and updates for Office 2007, which will make it vulnerable to threat.

To avoid a lapse in fully-supported software, Extension IT is planning to upgrade all Extension supported machines to Office 2010, the newest version currently available.  All machines are scheduled to be updated by the end of October.

Extension IT will handle the upgrade in multiple ways:

  • Regional Office staff: please contact your regional support staff to arrange a time for an upgrade;
  • Twin Cities staff: download the software yourself by following the installation instructions on the Extension intranet.  Contact the Extension IT help desk at 612-624-6700 with questions;
  • Staff scheduled to get a new computer after June: Office 2010 will already be running on the new machines.

For questions, contact Extension IT at 612-624-6700.

I often wonder if such upgrades are really necessary... As a matter of fact, Im still using the Microsoft Word 2003 on Windows XP and have had no complaints.
