With an extremely strong pool of candidates to choose from, the search committee for the Community Vitality associate dean position has narrowed it down to four finalists. Each of these finalists will be brought in for interview seminars as noted below.
Dr. Brent Hales received his Ph.D. from Iowa State University in 2000 in rural sociology. He is currently associate professor in the Department of Economic and Workforce Development, University of Southern Mississippi. His seminar is scheduled for Thursday, May 24, 9:15-10 a.m.
Dr. Scott Chazdon received his Doctor of Philosophy in sociology from the University of Denver in 1996. He is currently interim associate dean for the Extension Center for Community Vitality and prior to this interim role was evaluation and research coordinator. His seminar is scheduled for Thursday, May 24, 3:15-4 p.m.
Dr. Maureen Kilkenny received her Ph.D. in applied economics in 1987 from the University of Minnesota. Her most recent role was that of professor, Department of Resource Economics at the University of Nevada. Her seminar will be Friday, May 25, 9:30-10:15 a.m.
Dr. Cindy Wilcox received her Ph.D. in leadership and cultural systems from Unions Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2003. Her seminar will be Tuesday, June 19 (seminar time TBD).
Each candidate will be requested to respond to the following seminar topic: "Based on scholarship and your professional experience, what do communities of place need to be vital; and how can applied research and Extension education lead to community level impacts across Minnesota?"
The 30-minute presentation will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A. Extension staff are invited to participate in the seminars by joining us in Room 401 in Coffey Hall, or by participating online via UMConnect live stream. Recordings will also be available after the interviews and will be announced in enews, in June.
