Extension Centennial 1909-2009.

100 years old and counting

In 1909, state legislators saw fit to enable the University of Minnesota to take the latest research from University labs into people's lives. For a century, Extension faculty have extended the reach of the University into every corner of the state, providing Minnesotans with access to practical, research-based information to help improve their lives.

From the first world war to present day, Minnesota families, including new Americans, have turned to Extension to get through difficult times. Working with Extension, Minnesotans have learned how to grow healthy food, serve it on a tight budget, and raise their children during challenging times. As a result, Minnesota communities are stronger and more vibrant, today's youth are prepared to be tomorrow's leaders, Minnesota farms are more profitable, the food we eat is safer, and the quality of Minnesota's lakes and rivers is improved.

The citizens of Minnesota helped shape Extension's rich history. We invite you to discover their stories, view their photographs, and learn from their experiences. Extension is committed to building upon their great legacy—for the next 100 years and beyond.
