The story is about an Indian girl who goes with missionaries to the East coast. Her personal traits influenced her education in a difficult way because she was scared inside of all the people and the different kind of culture there was. The exterior force that had the biggest influence on her was the kind of society they were now in. She didn't feel comfortable around the new people and the different way of life away from home. What i liked about this story is how it told about what life is like when you all of a sudden have to leave home for years in order to go to school. It's like college in a way.
