Analysis: Large data sets and child abuse

In the Los Angeles Times' article, "Problems keep proliferating at discredited private foster care agency," the author used results from a "damning assessment" from Los Angeles County auditors that investigated Teens Happy Homes, a private foster care agency responsible for hundreds of children.

To produce the story the author looked at the agency's tax returns and determined that the Teens contract tripled its value from $1 million a year to as much as $3.6 million.

The author also used information from interviews and an examination of public records from The Times to deliver the story.
