**Historical Information Gatherers, Inc. (HIG) is a rapidly growing historical research firm providing support services for the Environmental Site Assessment industry. We research, collect, and provide an array of historical data that allow our clients to observe property changes over time. Digital imaging, GIS, and data acquisition are core aspects of HIG operations.

HIG now seeks enthusiastic applicants to assist us with data acquisition, image rectification/orthophoto production, database creation, and production of site-specific data sets for our clients.
Specific tasks will include:

* Scanning of aerial photography, maps, and other documents using a
variety of equipment. Scanning operations will be conducted both
in our Hopkins, MN offices and at remote locations throughout the
upper Midwest.
* Georectification of imagery using ArcGIS or other software.
* Creation of shapefiles using ArcGIS.
* Database creation using MS Excel and Access.
* Production of data sets using ArcGIS and graphics software.
* Other misc. duties.

We will consider both full time and part time applicants. Evening and weekend hours may be available. We will be hiring one or more permanent full time positions at the end of the internship. It is not essential for all interns to be able to travel or perform all the above tasks, although preference will be given to those who can. Strong computer skills are essential and familiarity with MS Office, ArcGIS, document scanning and graphics software is preferred.

When you have your group project topic crystallized, you can create a new entry for that. I believe that works the same as for me when I post an entry to the blog. Go to blog. lib.umn.edu in your webbrowser and select "Log in to your blogs". After you go through the .X500 authentication, you should see the name of this blog and several options including GEOG5563.

I think that's how it will work for everybody; believe me, I'm no expert for blogs. I've found the help to be very useful.
