1. On Tuesday, May 7, I will be in our classroom to read drafts and answer any questions. No activities are planned, and no attendance will be taken. Feel free to stop by and work independently any time during the class period. I will accept Inquiry Projects students wish to turn in early.

2. On Thursday, May 9, I will collect the Inquiry Projects (official due date). You will complete the course evaluations and a final in-class reflective essay (no preparation needed). All written work must be turned in; no work will be accepted after May 9.

Writing conferences with the second draft of the Inquiry Project have concluded. For class on Tuesday, April 23:

1. Bring TWO copies of a third draft of your Inquiry Project for a mandatory editing and proofreading session.

2. Bring your Annotated Bibliography of six sources to turn in to me. Late work will be marked down 10% (see syllabus policies).

3. Oral presentations of the Inquiry Project will be assigned and discussed (handout).

Writing Conferences April 15-19

Hi, folks.

1. Individual writing conferences will be held April 15-19 (Monday-Friday) in my office, 311 Nolte. The detailed writing conference schedule with your specific day, date, and time will be emailed to you once your class signs up.

2. Bring TWO paper copies of the second draft of your Inquiry Project to the 20-minute conference for us to read and discuss. This second draft should be closer to the 10-page length requirement than the first draft read by your peers.

1. Please bring TWO copies of your 5-6 page first draft of the Inquiry Project for a mandatory peer review session.

2. Your thesis or claim about the ways in which this historical event has influenced, changed, impacted, or shaped our American culture, society, military, economy, politics, etc., should be stated within the introduction. Some support for and development of this claim should be seen in the body of the draft.

3. You will sign up for a writing conference with me to be held the following week (see syllabus).

Hello, everyone.
1. The Proposal for the Inquiry Project is due. Please place the following required items in a folder: both copies of the first draft brought to your writing conference with me; both copies of the second draft workshopped by your classmates; and, the final Proposal. Optional: You may also include any extra drafts you created and took to the writing center, for example.
2. You will write a creative essay, "Embodying Your Event," that will require no advance preparation. This creative piece could later be used as part of your Inquiry Project.
3. The actual Inquiry Project will be assigned and reviewed on Thursday, April 4, per the syllabus.

1. Come to class ready for some reading and writing related to the Proposal you are now working on. No advance preparation is necessary! We will have a few guest speakers talk about their Inquiry Projects.
2. Email me (filli002@umn.edu) a summary of the comments and suggestions you received from your peers during the workshop of your second draft on Tuesday, March 26. Tell me which suggestions you plan to incorporate, and those you will disregard. Please explain.

Please note on the syllabus that writing conferences continue up through Tuesday, March 12, and that I will be attending a teacher conference out of town on Thursday, March 14.

Spring Break is the following week. We will meet back in class on Tuesday, March 26, at which time you will bring TWO copies of your second draft of the Proposal for a mandatory peer workshop.

1. Annotations are due at class time. You will share one of your Annotations with the class in a brief oral roundtable discussion. (Re-read the Annotations assignment sheet reviewed in class for instructions.)

2. We will look at definitions of Artifacts and Documents as they relate to research of historical events. (No advance preparation on your part is necessary for this.)
