Carol--here you provide a clear affirmation for the role that writing plays in art history (and every other field) and provide students with a preview of the kinds of writing they will be doing during the upcoming semester.
I detect an interest in engaging both those students who intend to be art historians and those who do not...but I think that you could do this a little more concretely. Providing examples of the specific kinds of writing art historians do and then developing your assertion that writing will enhance the sorts of learning that students will be doing as they consider art and history might be helpful.
