Surprises In Acting Class

Yesterday in my acting class I got up in front of the group to act out a scene with one of the other students. We were demonstrating how analyzing a scene could help bring different elements to it.

The first time through we simply read the scene.

The second time we established what was literally happening in the scene (I was asking for $40) and then we established the essential action, which is less clear. (I was asking a friend for a favor) It was my job to come up with an "as if" I chose it was as if I was asking for a favor at work. It was funny how drastically it changed the way the scene went. I have to say I was surprised at the performance I gave.

The third time we did the scene I was again asking for $40, but this time I was supposed to be a really slimy character. This time I knew the other person liked me and I had to con the $40 out of her. This was a lot harder for me because I am not that type of person, so I could not rely on my own experiences to help me act out the scene. Somehow I was able to channel one of those slimy characters that you see on TV...I used a cross between Lex Luther and on of those sluts you see on all the Soaps who use their sexuality in order to get what they want...I guess it worked really well.
