Mummified corpse found in front of blaring tv

New York City police discovered a mummified corpse in an apartment on Sunday, according to TV3 News.

The man, 70-year-old Vincenzo Ricardo, is believed to have died over a year ago in front of his blaring television, Reuters said.

Police discovered the man when they came to investigate a burst water pipe, CNN reports.

The man apparently died of natural causes and the low humidity of his apartment preserved his body, The New York Times said.

Wild lose important game to Blues

The Minnesota Wild had a chance on Sunday to take over first place in the Northwest Division with a win over the Blues, but a 5-3 loss keeps Vancouver in the division lead, according to Wild.com.

After trailing the Blues 2-0 halfway through the first period, the Wild rallied to tie the game before the first intermission with goals from Adam Hall and Marian Gaborik, reports the Star Tribune.

Goalie Niklas Backstrom was pulled during intermission in favor of Josh Harding after the Blues rallied to make the score 5-2 . It was Harding's first NHL game of the season, KARE 11 said.

Pavol Dimitra scored at the end of the third period to make it 5-3. It was the first loss for the Wild when Marian Gaborik scores-coming into the game versus the Blues, the Wild were 12-0-1 when Gaborik scored at least one goal in the game, KSTP said.

A Wisconsin woman dies in car crash explosion

A Wisconsin woman died on Saturday when she crashed her truck into a house, according to WCCO.

The unidentified woman, about 40-years-old, drove her car into a Prescott, Wis. home and caused a gas main to break which resulted in an explosion, the Pioneer Press reports.

Officer Benjamin Henrich was trying to help the woman inside the truck when the explosion happened. He was thrown 25 to 30 feet after the explosion, but was not seriously injured, KARE 11 said.

The residents of the home were inside at the time of the crash and escaped safely, the Star Tribune said.

Avalanches kill five over weekend

Avalanches killed five people over the weekend in Montana, Utah and Idaho, USA Today said.

Two snowmobilers were found at the bottom of Mount Baldy near Townsend, Mont. on Sunday. A third snowmobiler survived after going for help, The New York Times is reporting.

Two more snowmobilers died in seperate avalanches in Utah. Zacharay Holmes, 16, died near Tower Mountain and
an unidentified man died near Signal Peak, MSNBC said.

Another unidentified man lost his life near Palisade Peak in Idaho, CNN said.

Explosion on Indian train may be act of terror.

The Washington Post is reporting that a bomb has killed 60 people and injured 50 others on a passenger train in India.

The incident is believed to be an act of terror, the spokesman for India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said. Most of the passagers were Pakastani.

According to MSNBC, two suitcases filled with explosive materials were found near the train. It exploded just outside of Deewana.

Residents of the town came to help put out the fire with buckets of water, CNN said.

Baby born in minivan on Hwy. 100

WCCO is reporting that a woman gave birth on Friday to a baby girl along the side of Hwy. 100 in Edina.

Jill Heath, 33, was on her way to Fairview Southdale Hospital when she gave birth to her daughter, Lillian Louise, in the front seat of her minivan, said the Star Tribune. Her husband Chris helped deliver their daughter.

The Plymouth couple has three other children and said this will be the last one, according to KARE 11.


Wild beat defending Stanley Cup Champions

The Wild pulled off a 5-4 victry over the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night, according to KARE 11 News.

After Justin Williams scored just 36 seconds into the game, the Wild came back with goals by Mark Parrish, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and two by Marian Gaborik, said WCCO.

By the end of the second period, the Hurricanes had scored two more goals, making the score 4-3, said the St.Paul Pioneer Press.

The Wild and the Hurricanes each scored one more goal to make the final score 5-4. The win put the Wild in a tie for first place in the Northwestern Division with Calgary and Vancouver, said the Star Tribune.

Kitchen fire kills St.Paul man

WCCO is reporting that a 29-year-old man died after his kitchen started on fire.

Ronrico Madison was cooking with oil when it started on fire. He attempted to put the fire out with water, which spread the blaze, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Firefighters were summoned to the 900 block of Goodrich Avenue on Saturday night around 9 p.m., said KARE 11 News.

Madisons mother called 911 to report the fire, said the Star Tribune. The fire was the second fatal fire in the city of St. Paul in 2007.

Obama announces candidacy for President

The New York Times is reporting that U.S. Senator Barak Obama announced his candidacy for President of the United States on Saturday.

Obama, 45, would be the first African-American president if elected, said USA Today. He has been in the Senate for two years.

But there is controversy over his candidacy, said the L.A. Times. Some believe that Obama may have a hard time relating to black voters because of his lack of experience with urban struggles as well as his mixed heritage.

Obama said that it is time for a new generation in the White House, according to the Assocated Press as reported by the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Iranian arms found in Iraq

Reuters is reporting that the U.S. is accusing Iran of "fanning violence" in Iraq by giving the country sophisticated bomb-making technology as well as proving money and training to Shi'ite groups.

A senior defense official has told the Washington Post that Iran is the only country in the region that produces these types of weapons.

The bombs are the armor piercing type and have killed over 170 American forces, reports MSNBC.

Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations, Javad Zarif, has denied the allegations, according to CNN.
