The joys of winter

If you are a prospective student from out of state...Minnesota will have lots of surprises for you!! The weather here changes so drastically, it is crazy! Just the other day everything was melting at it was about 27 degrees out or so, now it's 5 degrees for the high of the day and even colder with the wind!! We just got a lot of snow in the past two days as well so the roads are all chunky with snow, and half plowed so far! Minneapolis is in a "snow emergency" right now which basically means don't park on the streets because they are going to plow. So it's all exciting if you're not used to it yet! But unfortunately I am used to it and it's old! haha...My car actually got stuck at the end of my driveway yesterday because the road was plowed, making a huge pile at the end of my driveway that apparently my car cou;dn't get over! So be careful!!

This seems to be one of the busiest times of the year, every year, for me! With all of the holidays, finals, the upcoming semester, and winter! It seems like we all of a sudden got all of this snow and just a few weeks ago we had none! I am not ready for all of this...but oh well! I am extremely happy to be on break now from school. It's a perfect time for me to relax and not think about class work for a while! Although I am pretty anxious for my last semester here!! :) I am also pretty excited and anxious to start looking for a job when i graduate. I am actually a PCA (Personal Care Attendant) for a 12 year old girl with autism right now and I am hoping that I get to do that full time right away after I graduate! But who knows, there are so many fields and areas of interest that I have that I am honestly open to almost anything for my first job! Well, back to being busy...

Our Adopted Family

As you know, the Roundtable adopted a family adopted a family for the holidays and we purchased and wrapped a TON of gifts for them! I was so surprised at all of the gifts that we all came up with for the family. In fact, they all got everything that was on their lists that we received! :) When i brought the gifts to the organization they were very thankful for our generous donations. It's a good feeling to know that I was a part of the Roundtable who did this great work for people in need.

Senior Portfolio Day!

Today was the senior's portfolio day! This means people that were enrolled in FSoS 4296 present their portfolios and papers to professors, faculty, and other students. It was a really great experience for me and a lot different than I has expected! I was expecting the class, and maybe like 5 professors to be there. But there were so many more people there-people I had never seen or had before! There were also multiple graduate students there as well which was nice to see and get advice from! So basically, all of the FSoS 4296 students sat in one spot with their portolios and paper as others walked around and choose people to sit by and look through their items. Many people commented on how nice my portfolio looked and how everything that I have done in my undergraduate career so far is impressive! It was a good self-esteem booster for me as well as gave me more confidence for when I graduate and start looking for a job! :)

Meal Serving and Gift Giving

On 11/26 the Family Social Science Roundtable served dinner at People Serving People and it was so much fun! There were so many more people there than last time we went there to volunteer. We think this is so just because of the weather getting colder and people are in more need of shelter. Also, of course, the poor economy. It was a great feeling though to help out and give them warm food for the night! We are also in the middle of purchasing and wrapping gifts for a family of 4 that we have adopted through Family and Children's Service. I have received so many gifts so far!!! All 4 in the family have about 3 gifts each already to open during the holidays! This is a great way to get all of the Roundtable people together for agreat cause and we get to wrap the gifts too! (I like wrapping!)

Spring Semester Thoughts

I received an email from the U of MN today about selling back my textbooks and purchasing my new ones for Spring Semester...but Fall semester still has a few more weeks! This is crazy how fast everything is going! I am lucky and actually do not have any finals during finals week...they are ALL on December 9th! But I am looking at it as a good thing because I will just be done and over it all early so my break is longer! :) So soon I will be getting some Christmas spending cash for my textbooks now and will be out shopping during my long break!
