Made by China

Please join us at the East Asian Library [April 8th, one week from today] for "Made by China," the second brown bag discussion of our China Today series. Our speaker Seth Werner, lecturer of Marketing and Logistics Management, Carlson School, has given a well-received presentation named "Made in China" at Weisman Museum last October. This time Mr. Werner will discuss more on the transition from "Made in China" to "Made by China," and how China’s early policies regarding foreign investment have prepared China for future growth. Mr. Werner will share with the audience basic information about recent trends in foreign investment in China and his thoughts on how Chinese firms are starting to grow into markets beyond China’s boarders. A key thesis is that these firms are using important market tools well beyond the stereotypical “price advantage. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

The East Asian Library will provide fresh tea and light Chinese treats.

Date: Tuesday (4/08/2008)
Time: 11:45am-1:00pm
Place: East Asian Library, Wilson Library Subbasement, West Bank

China blog list.org

This is a list of blogs in Chinese written by learners of Chinese as foreign language. Some are really fun to read!

Here's an example:

除夕晚上有ä¸?å°‘å?Žäººè·Ÿå®¶åºå›¢å‘˜å?ƒä¸€é¡¿å¾ˆå¤§çš„晚é¤?,ä¸?过基ç?£å¾’å?ªèƒ½åˆ†äº«æ— è‚‰çš„è?œã€‚

"Have to love"

A teenage Chinese song, recommended by Donna. Her kids love it!!

I love you
I love you

YOU'RE MY GIRL MY GIRL MY FRIENDHOW MUCH I LOVE YOU SO SO MUCH I'M SORRY YOU'RE MY SWEETHEARTMY LOVE MY ONE

Jay Chou Fearless

Jay Chou+Jet Li, one of the most favorited Chinese songs on youtube:

Rutgers Chinese

Hi everyone,

This is the Rutgers Chinese learning site. The novice level dialogues are traditional dialogues, but the intermediate and advanced levels are authentic texts--so maybe it suits advanced students more.

http://chinese.rutgers.edu/content_cs.htm

This is for example one of the texts about Chinese names:--although I'm thinking whether this is too difficult because of the vocabulary. What do you think?

“è´?è´?â€?ã€?“å°?ä¹–â€?ã€?“毛毛â€?

å†? 学å??çš„å??

èµ·æ?¥å¥½å?¬ï¼Œå?«ä¹‰å¥½ï¼Œè€Œä¸”å?ˆä¸?
字最动å?¬ã€‚å?Œæ—¶å©å?çš„å??
å—å?ˆä»Žå?¦ä¸€æ–¹é?¢å??

jiao zi (dumplings) and chopsticks

Hi Lilian,

I found these about making Jiaozi:

These are in English but maybe you can dub them:

There are quite a few about using chopsticks. This one is just funny:

"Spring Festival food" seems to be too broad to search--do you mean the banquet scenes? The food I think can be just any food depending on the regions and family preferences. Maybe you can narrow down your search? For specific dishes it would be easy to find pictures through google....
