Sailor's Sonnet

My greatest happiness is that I’ve none.
For contentment lays beachéd as a whale
Upon the shallow reef of things once done.
It came ashore on tides of time, not tail.
Once cunningly in currents did it swim,
Whence ambition was its name. Discontent,
In restless jaws it crushed men life and limb.
Unstoppable he was in his element.
Most unsuspecting he was of time itself
For oceans hold the mem’ries of sins past,
Imprinted shadows hidden in the water’s stealth,
Which surface without warning at the last.
I shall repent me nothing, for the sea
Took that loved I most, and most loved me.
