Liz ought it would be great for all of you to see this...
DHA has a Graphic Design Club and this could be a great resource for networking and learning.
From the GDC
1) First of all, our meetings will take place on the first Wednesday
of every month at 5:30. If this is not going to work for the majority
of people who actually want to come, then we can vary it or change
it. The next meeting is Wednesday, November 1st at 5:30 in 274 McNeal
(fireplace room). Please come and bring your ideas for GD Club along.
2) At the last meeting we had a minimal turnout, so in order to
advertise a bit for the Nov.1st meeting, we are having a poster
contest. Your poster will be judged and if you win, you will receive
$10 off the student dues for GD Club. The poster must be handed in to
Steven McCarthy by next Wed. the 25th at 5pm. The posters should
include the information:
-next meeting date/time/place (see above for Nov. 1st info)
-11x17 format and pdf file
-student dues info. (see #4)
- contact info for Elizabeth Homer- home0010@umn.edu or Erin Scott
scot0365@umn.edu
3) Many of us in different classes don't know each other, so it's
important to come together as a design community. This club will be
great for getting to know your fellow designers. Types of things GD
Club will do are: design firm visits, interviews, portfolio review,
critiques (if you want input on your work from other designers),
lectures, entering contests, AIGA conferences, group activities:
visit exhibits, openings, museums together, we also would like to
plan a big trip to an AIGA conference this year. If you have a
certain firm you'd like to visit, or speaker you'd like to have
present, tell us!
4) The student dues are $20 for the year. If you intend to become a
member of AIGA (which costs $75), your GD Club dues will be dropped
down to $5. And, of course, if you win the poster contest, you will
get $10 off! If you aren't sure what AIGA is, see here:
http://www.aiga.org/
and here:

5) Lastly, this Thursday and Friday nights pose great opportunities
to get a look at the professional design world. Michael Vanderbyl is
giving a lecture at the College of Visual Arts ($10 for students)
Thursday at 7pm. On Friday from 4-8 is the FREE opening and reception
for his exhibit. The address is: 3M Auditorium, Minnesota History
Center, 345 Kellogg Boulevard, St.Paul. Go for it!
