Hey class!

Our "senior show" meeting on thursday went well. Thank you to all there for your great ideas and input! We came up with a few names and themes, but it is still in the working stage, so other ideas are welcome.

The first is our favorite one so far - Name:" and we're off!", Theme: race horse event, betting, stat sheets(with designers info on them), tickets, stalls, etc.

Other names include: 'here goes', 'here we go', 'older & wiser', 'in with the new', 'don't stop us now', 'kickstart'.

Other themes: First class of College of Design

For music we have these options: Nick, Liz's buddy, Matt Schiller, Tamara's friend (coffee house music)

Advertising ideas: postcards, poster, crafty invitation with folds and cut-outs.
-Liz can possibly advertise at the Onion for us.
-Amanda can possibly get ads in at The Daily

Food and Beverages: nadda so far.

If anyone else has input for the name, theme, music, advertising, and/or food,...please let us know, either on the blog, or you can email me in person at klei0335@umn.edu.

Thanks much and I'll see ya all next thursday!

Hey class!
We have another idea for a theme for our senior show.

As designers and as people we are all unique. We share similar experiences, but we all take something different from it. We are our own individual and yet united at the same time.

Proposal: each person designs, sketches, paints, photographs, etc, their own element. Anything they want it to be that can represent them individually. Then these elements will be combined in a pattern or compiled somehow into one unified design.

Let me know what you think thursday!

Hey class,

Last week we finally decided on the theme and name of our senior show. It
will be the racehorse theme with the name "& We're Off!". Thank you to Liz
and John for helping us make the decision and giving us a good idea of what
to use as illustrations. We are thinking of giving each student the shape
of a horse and then each person can individualize it and we'll use it as a
'sort of logo' to differentiate each student. I will be talking with Liz
and John to get that going and get all the details for you.

I will talk with James and Nick about the food and alcohol, so we have that
situated by this thursday.

Also, we need ideas for mailers, promotional items, and giveaways. The
mailers to graphic design companies need to be the best and have the most
work put into them. So if you come up with any cool ideas, please email
them to Jenna, Grace, Angie, and Tamara.

Have a great week and I'll see ya'll thursday!

Hey everyone

I made an iMix on iTunes of the sound I have in mind for the senior show. Here's the link:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewIMix?id=203812101

If that doesn't work, search "And we're off!" in the iMix's.

Take a listen and let me know what you think!

How does Saturday, Nov. 18th, at 10:00am sound to do the screenprinting for our flyers and promo materials? Everyone please let me know if you can help out then. Thanks!

Hello graphic design seniors! Sorry this is kinda long, but I figured if I
really explained things well it would ease our anxiety and fears about the
show.

I had a good long talk with James about our show Friday. I explained our
situation to him and the issues we are dealing with: time constraint, small
group, expensive venue, etc. James was rather sad that we were thinking of
giving up so soon on the show. He explained that the show isn’t to see if
we can get a job. It’s really just a fun party for us to celebrate our
completion of school and show off the cool work we have done. It shouldn’t
be stressful at all! And it ends our year on a good note, as well as giving
us the experience of displaying our designs and talking to others about
them.

I have come to realize maybe we’ve been looking at our senior show the
wrong way. I know we each have a lot to get done before the end of the
semester, so we will keep it as simple as possible. James and I have come
up with some good ideas that are simple enough to do, but still creative
and will make it possible to still have the senior show on Dec. 15th. If we
wait until January 5th to do the show, we will probably have lost the
excitement and momentum of celebrating by then.

I want to run the ideas by you all to see what you think. If most of you
agree with them, then we can get started right away and the more help the
better! Since our class is so small, if a few people decide not to go to
the show, our show will look pretty skimpy. So I hope everyone can at least
make it to the show!

THE VENUE: www.qarmabuilding.com Last years class held their senior show at
the Qarma building, which is located in the industrial area of Minneapolis.
James said it had a great layout and even though it is not cheap ($300 to
rent, $250 for the deposit that we will get back at the end of the night),
he believes we can still make it work. He is going to talk to the school
and see if they can lend us more money, now that we know exactly what it
will cost us. James believes and I agree that having an open space
dedicated just to us will be a better experience than using space that is
attached to a bar, because the show becomes more like the background than
the center of attention. I’ve attached a sketch of the Qarma layout so you
can have an idea of what it looks like.

THE MAILER: James gave us a good idea for the mailer that is easy to make
and still creative. We’ll use the poster we have so far and turn it into a
folded pamphlet that we can close with a sticker and mail with a stamp.
We’ll keep the idea of having different colored papers and screenprinting
white on them. I will be meeting with James this week to create the two
screens we’ll use for printing. We are thinking of having between 4-6
people at the least come in one day to do the screenprinting, folding, and
taping shut the mailers. We’ll have two screenprinting stations with one
person printing out white on dark papers and a helper to lay them out,
while the other person prints a dark color on light paper and has a helper
to lay them out. Once they dry we can fold them and get them ready to mail.
We think we can fit at the most, 5 mailers per screen, maybe less. That
will make the process go faster. We will probably need about 20 mailers per
person, so that will be only about 300 total that we would have to make. I
have attached a sketch of this idea as well so you know what I’m talking
about.

THE GIVEAWAYS We don’t need to have these if we don’t have time. So we’ll
just put these on hold for now.

OUR PROJECTS Since we have to have our projects ready and in a portfolio
for Portfolio class before the 15th, we shouldn’t have a problem coming up
with projects to put in the show.

THE FOOD If we can’t find anyone who can donate food and drinks, I think we
could just each bring something, like a potluck. I can pick up croissants
at sam’s club and we could have sandwiches, cheese and crackers, bars,
cookies, fruit, veggie tray, etc. and then we’d all have to chip in for the
beer keg and wine. I’ll make a list of what to bring and then everyone can
choose something.

MUSIC If we don’t have music ready by that Friday, my friend would love to
come in and play live music for free. It’s upbeat, but also won’t take over
the show in anyway.

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU BY MONDAY NIGHT: 1- Your yes or no if you agree we
should still have the show Dec. 15th, and you like the plan James and I
came up with.

2- If you can help out with screenprinting, let me know which date you
would prefer to do it on: Saturday Nov. 25th, Friday Dec. 1st, or Saturday
Dec. 2nd. We would probably start in the morning at about 10:00 and go all
day till we are finished.

3- Your designer’s eye to check out the mailer and critique it. Let me know
what you think should be changed, added, arranged differently, so the
poster looks awesome! Then James and I will pick the best one and print it
out so it is ready for screenprinting. I’ll also attach the illustrator
file so you can make changes on it and send it back to me.

Please email me these three things as soon as possible! Don’t forget to
check out the attachments. Let’s get ready to celebrate!

Tamara

This is a good post. This post give truly quality information.

Superb go through, I just passed this onto a colleague who was carrying out slightly analysis on that. And he seriously bought me lunch for the reason that I located it for him smile So permit me rephrase that: Thank you for lunch!
