Thanks to Amanda for sending this...and trying to post it here. I will check into whats going on with this Blog commenting issue.
The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) hosts many design lectures, all free and open to the public. I was browsing their upcoming events webpage and found that there are two interesting ones happening very soon (ONE TONIGHT!) These would be good lectures to attend for anyone in this class or anyone in Senior Seminar (remember that those shooting for an "A" must attend one design lecture this semester). See the info below, courtesy of MCAD's website...
Fred Senn When: Sept. 20, 6:30 p.m. Where: Auditorium 150 Cost: Free
A partner and co-founder of the Minneapolis agency Fallon Worldwide, Fred Senn recently co-authored a book with Pat Fallon about using creativity to solve key business issues. Among the agency's award-winning works have been Citibank's "Live Richly" and identity theft campaigns, featuring crime victims speaking with thieves' dubbed voices.
Marlena Peleo-Lazar When: Oct. 31, 6:30 p.m. Where: Auditorium 150 Cost:
Free Marlena Peleo-Lazar leads the creation of McDonald's advertising for the entire product line in the United States, including the recent "I'm Lovin' It" campaign. Serving as the keeper of the keys for all marketing materials, she nurtures the brand personality of the company's products and supervises the internal creative department.

An interesting, not overwhelming, assignment
Students entering the 2006-2007 competition are asked to submit two Yellow
Pages print ads and one Internet Yellow Pages ad for Bella Dental. Students can
work alone or in teams of up to three, under the supervision of a faculty
advisor. Multiple teams can enter from the same class or school and a faculty
advisor can supervise more than one team. The entry can be worked-on during
either the Fall (2006) or Spring (2007) semester, and may be the result of an
in-class assignment. All entries are due by April 20, 2007.
A great way for students to improve both their finances and job prospects after
graduation
Prize awards totaling over $9,000 will be distributed as follows:
1st Place: $2,500 to winning team; $750 to faculty sponsor
2nd Place: $1,500 to winning team; $500 to faculty sponsor
3rd Place: $750 to winning team; $350 to faculty sponsor
Honorable Mentions (up to 6): $300 to winning team; $200 to faculty sponsor
Beyond monetary prizes, entry and success in the competition can help students
beef up their resume. All award winners will receive personal letters of
recommendation from Neg Norton, YPA President.
