         <title>2012-2013 GISSO Kick-Off Event</title>
         <description><p>Welcome back, students!</p>

<p>Join us on Monday, September 10th for our annual kick-off event as we celebrate the start of another year with pizza, refreshments, and prizes. The event will take place at 4:30 pm in Blegen 445. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet other students and learn about upcoming events!</p>

         <title>Inaugural Poster Contest Winners for the GISSO Career Fair</title>
         <description><p>On Tuesday, April 4, 2012, GISSO's 11th Annual GIS Career and Networking Fair held its first ever poster contest, sponsored by U-Spatial. Voting was extremely close.</p>

<p><strong>Poster Contest Results:</strong><br />
1st Place: Peder Engstrom, "Identifying opportunities to reduce excess nitrogen in croplands while maintaining current yields"<br />
2nd Place: Kris Johnson, "Twin Cities Population Density: through the lens of dasymetric mapping"<br />
3rd Place: Jacqueline Brost, "Cartography in GIS: Lost in Translation"</p>

<p>Congratulations to Peder, Kris, and Jacqueline for the recognition their posters received from fair attendees, and thank you to all entrants for helping start a new tradition for GISSO career fairs. A special thanks to U-Spatial for sponsoring the event.</p></description>
