Understanding Differences, Making Differences
In this section, the differences between Chinese culture and American culture will be presented and discussed, especially in communication style. Chinese people prefer communication strategies quite different from that adopted in the US, which are more implicit, restrained, interdependent, indirect, self-effacing and hesitant. These features of Chinese communication reflect unique Chinese values and philosophies. Understanding these differences will lead to less misunderstanding and more effective communication between Chinese and Americans.
