Study in Finland at Univ of Turku

The new Universities Act in force in Finland is giving universities larger economic and administrative autonomy. In connection to this reform, The University of Turku and Turku School of Economics emerged 1.1.2010. The new University of Turku has even wider variety of non-degree courses and larger selection for Master's Degree Programmes available in English.

We are pleased to inform you about our application procedures and guidelines for exchange students at the University of Turku, Finland.

Application procedure for incoming exchange students:
Students should fill in an electronic application form on:www.utu.fi/en/studying/apply/non-degree/index.html

The enclosures (Nomination, Transcript of Records, Learning Agreement, and Language Certificate) should be sent by post to the International Office:

The deadline for the autumn semester 2010/academic year 2010-2011 will
be May 31, 2010.

After the acceptance we will post the acceptance letters and information packages directly to students, unless otherwise agreed.

When your students do their ECTS Learning Agreements, please refer them to our web site: www.utu.fi/en/studying/programmes/nondegree.html and Guide for Exchange Students on: www.utu.fi/en/studying/studies/guides.html. They can quite freely choose courses over the faculty borders (except Medicine/Economics) since most of the non-degree programmes are

We are aware that students filling in their Learning Agreements have sometimes difficulties in finding updated course information.Therefore, students are advised to do their ECTS Learning Agreements based on the latest available information.

The Learning Agreement of our University can be filled in and/or printed from: www.utu.fi/opiskelu/kv/lomakkeet/saapuvat.html

Students will have a chance to make changes to their Learning Agreements with the Changes to the Previous ECTS Learning Agreement- form withinone month after their arrival. We will help them to fax the study plans to the home university, if necessary.

Student housing is not organised by the university but by the Student Village Foundation. Students should apply for housing themselves by filling in an electronic application form on the website of Student Village Foundation at least 6 weeks before the first day of the lease. The electronic application form can be filled in on:

Please notice that the rental agreements are made for whole semesters only:
- autumn semester September - December, 4 months minimum, or
- spring semester January - May, 5 months minimum

All incoming exchange students coming to study at the University of Turku are required to begin their studies with an Orientation Course. The next Orientation Course will be held on 25.-27.8.2010.

The University of Turku organises an International Summer School in August 2010. The Summer School is aimed at university students, graduates, international scholars and experts in various fields, whether they are planning a short study visit or a permanent stay in Finland. The Programme offers an excellent introduction to the Finnish language, culture and way of life especially for students beginning their studies
in Turku the following autumn.
