UMN Global Health Course Clinical Tropical, Migrant & Travel Medicine July 6-Aug 27, 2010


Course attendees are welcome to participate on a weekly or monthly basis! Note to HHH students & alum: May be open to non-medical people too--contact GH staff for more information if seriously interested.

AUDIENCE: The Global Health Course is an intensive training course aimed at any physician or
health care provider that serves globally mobile populations such as immigrants, refugees, and/or travelers. Based on the principle that there are no local diseases, the curriculum delivers pragmatic information and skills for providing health care in a global village.

Course participants include University of Minnesota and non-University of Minnesota medical
students, residents, and fellows as well as local, national, and international practicing and retired
physicians, nursing students, registered nurses, licensed nurse practitioners, physician assistants, veterinarians, and active military personnel.

COURSE: The Global Health Course is an outstanding source for the most current and relevant
Tropical and Travel Medicine information as well as a certificate preparation course that is one of 17 courses offered internationally, and the only course that is co-sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Once participants complete our American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) accredited Global Health Course and complete an international rotation, they are qualified to sit for the biannually-offered exam that leads to a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health; CTropMed ®.

Participants may take individual modules of the Global Health Course in any order and over multiple years.

ACCREDITATION: We will be offering American Medical Association PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢
for this activity. Determination of credit is pending. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of Minnesota and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The University of Minnesota is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Continuing Medical Education credit hours are available to all course participants.
