In the past, Red Feather has traditionally limited the amount of volunteers from outside the reservation community, and from any one entity during our reservation home construction projects. It has been our experience that too large of a group of off-reservation volunteers tends to inhibit local participation, and that too large of a group from any one entity inhibits the ability of our members to participate in a straw bale home project.
As our program continues to expand and the capacity of our native partners to conduct their own independent home projects increases, we are beginning to explore volunteer opportunities that we can make available to groups of volunteers. A greater volunteer pool would improve our ability and our partner's abilities to construct additional homes, and increases the cultural exchange between our members and our partner communities.
As always, our community partners are our first priority, thus group volunteer opportunities will be on a limited basis. Groups of four (4) or more volunteers will be required to complete a separate Group Volunteer Application, and must submit the application at least three (3) months in advance of our June projects on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in eastern Montana, and our September home projects on the Hopi Reservation in northern Arizona.
We expect to have our Group Volunteer Policy developed and in place for our 2011 projects and we invite you to keep an eye on our web-site for additional information and announcements.
