Course: Human Rights and International Law
The OSCE Academy in Bishkek is a public foundation designed to promote the principles and aims of the OSCE in the Central Asian region, enshrined in its fundamental idea of comprehensive security. The MA in Political Science (Central Asia) Program of the Academy offers advanced courses in political science, international relations and a range of applied disciplines in comprehensive security, conflict prevention and resolution with a focus on Central Asia.
The Academy is looking for a well-qualified short-term visiting faculty to teach a modular course Human Rights and International Law within its MA in Political Science (Central Asia) 2010-2011 Program.
Terms of reference
This is a required graduate level course for non-lawyers, which meets every day (Monday through Thursday) for two weeks from 9.00-12.00 within Semester I of the 2010-2011 academic year. Semester I lasts from 30 August to 17 December, 2010.
The course shall overview main ideas, principles, concepts and problems of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, with a particular attention to practical and implementation issues. A Central Asian focus is highly preferred. The OSCE Academy will be available for a detailed discussion of the syllabus with the selected candidate.
Remuneration: internationally competitive
The qualified candidate must:
hold a Ph.D. in Human Rights, International Law or a related discipline or have a commensurate experience in Human Rights practice
have teaching experience in the field of Human Rights or International Law and a demonstrated ability to teach the course on a graduate level
be an open-minded, flexible and engaging teacher, following international standards in higher education and responsive to the needs of students
compile an extensive list of recommended literature on the subject
Language of instruction is English.
