Professor Dara Cohen of the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs is seeking four 25% time (10 hours per week) research assistants for Fall 2010 to assist in the creation and analysis of a large dataset on wartime sexual violence between 1989-2009. The research is part of the Sexual Violence in Armed Conflict (SVAC) data project, a partnership between the Humphrey Institute and the Centre for the Study of Civil War at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). Students will conduct internet and library research on recent conflicts, collect detailed information about incidents of wartime violence, and write narratives of case studies. The data collected will be used in a large-scale project, as part of an international partnership between academic researchers and policymakers. Students will have the opportunity to interact with international researchers and to assist in the preparation of materials to be used in presentations to government officials and policymakers.
The current position is for the Fall 2010 semester only, although the positions may be extended depending on future funding. Interviews will be conducted during the week of August 23. Research assistants must be available for a meeting with PRIO researchers on Tuesday, August 31.
