Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) in the MIT Department of Economics is dedicated to fighting poverty by ensuring that policy decisions are based on scientific evidence. We achieve this objective by undertaking, promoting the use of, and disseminating the results of randomized evaluations of poverty programs.

The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) network is now accepting applications for positions starting summer 2011, and for immediate openings.

J-PAL is a network of 51 affiliated professors around the world who are united by their use of Randomized Evaluations (REs) to answer questions critical to poverty alleviation. The J-PAL network's headquarters is a research center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, and J-PAL's regional offices are in Paris (France), Santiago (Chile), Chennai (India), and Cape Town (South Africa).

J-PAL affiliated professors employ research staff through a variety of research centers, including Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), Centre for Microfinance, Center for International Development's Micro-Development Initiative, Center of Evaluation for Global Action, Ideas 42, and the Small Enterprise Finance Center. Sometimes affiliated professors employ research staff through the universities where they are based.

What Openings are Available: Job opportunities fall into four major categories:

* Type 1: Field Project Associate/Research Assistant/Research Associate
* Type 2: Headquarters or office-based Project Associate/Research Analyst
* Type 3: Mid- or Senior-level research positions including Project Coordinator, Research Manager, and Country Director
* Type 4: Entry-, Mid-, and Senior-level positions in policy, training, or management

More than 70 openings are anticipated, 70% of which are Type 1 (based in the field). Some positions are available at J-PAL in Cambridge, MA and at IPA in New Haven, CT.
