WIIS looks to address this issue by providing leadership development opportunities to our members and supporters by promoting Lead Star's Leadership Boot Camp, a one-day training event that provides women professionals a fundamental leadership education. Lead Star's founders have a sincere appreciation for the challenges women in government face: the founders are former Marine Captains (and also authors of the best-selling book Leading from the Front.) Leadership Boot Camp is scheduled on April 12, 14 and May 10th in Fairfax, VA - I have attended it myself and can highly recommend this program. A $100 discount is offered towards enrollment fees if individuals commit prior to March 31st. Last year WIIS published a Progress Report on Women in Peace & Security Careers that discovered leadership was repeatedly cited as one of the most important, yet least cultivated, skills for women's advancement in government. Furthermore, our survey discovered women are often not getting the support they need (in terms of training, mentorship, work-life balance) to take on and succeed in leadership positions.
