The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT) makes grants to individuals and to projects seeking the creation of a peaceful world, political equality and social justice.

Ireland and Northern Ireland

Work which will contribute at a strategic level to the ongoing transformation of the Northern Ireland conflict through strengthening 'new politics', fostering a culture of human rights, equality and civil liberties, supporting initatives which promote a shared understanding of the root causes of past violence and work to strengthen citizens engagement on social justice issues, particularly from marginalised groups.

From April 2011 JRCT has introduced a 2-year moratorium on applications from organisations or initiatives in the Republic of Ireland which are not currently funded by the Trust. There is one exception to this moratorium. The Trust will accept applications from the Republic of Ireland for work which relates to the new policy on conflict issues in Northern Ireland. This moratorium will create space for JRCT to review its funding in the Republic of Ireland and consider the nature of future involvement.

South Africa (KwaZulu Natal only)

The Trust's programme in South Africa is now closed to new applications. Existing grants will be paid. The programme has supported work that promotes a just and peaceful South Africa, particularly through the reduction of rural poverty and addressing the problems of violent conflict on all levels of society.
