Background:
The Women United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (hereafter UN Women), grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Placing women's rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system all efforts of the to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States' priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
The Office of the Executive Director of UN Women is in need of an experienced writer and editor to support the Speechwriter and Communications Advisor in responding to the high demand for speeches and presentations by the Under-Secretary-General.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Writing, editing and speechwriting:
Provide support in preparing speeches and presentations as needed;
Provide support in preparing articles, prefaces and introductions as requested;
Assist in preparation of talking points and remarks on areas of UN Women work as requested.
Researching and fact-checking:
Assist in checking data and statistics on gender equality to ensure they are up-to-date.
Reviewing and editing UN Women papers, case studies and documents:
Provide support in finalizing UN Women documents, as requested.

Required Skills and Experience:
Advanced degree in journalism, communications or political science, or its equivalent.
2-3 years of relevant experience at national and international level
Excellent writing and communications skills.
Good knowledge/understanding of the UN system and gender equality,
Excellent organizational skills.
Fluency in English is required and Spanish is desirable.
