Nicaragua 2012 8 - 18 March (Spring Break) 2012 CourseAbroadSprilng2012Flyer-1.pdf

Spring 2012 PA 5890 - 2 Credits Guillermo E. Narváez, Ph.D.

Travel to Nicaragua to learn about the different economic and social development experiences of the past three decades. Nicaragua is often described as "the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere." Despite its unfavorable economic outlook, it has made great strides in improving the social and health conditions of its people, often at odds with widely held notions of development.

During a ten-day visit to this warm country, students will visit organizations working on social and economic development. These will include women's, environmental, labor, peasant and indigenous NGOs. Also students will visit colonial cities, nature reserves, agricultural cooperatives and coffee farms.

Knowledge of Spanish not required.
