Update from HHH alumnus Christopher Schons
"Over the past several months I have been collaborating with the University of Florida's Tourism Crisis Management Institute (UF-TCMI).
Here is a summary of some of our recent activities:
From March 18 to 28 we were in Peru meeting with USAID; the Ministry of International Trade and Tourism; the provincial government of Cusco; the Machupicchu Management Unit; several tourism associations; and several tourism companies.
We also signed a cooperative agreement with San Ignacio de Loyola University, put on a tourism crisis workshop in Cusco, and visited Machu Picchu.
On my own, I met with the American Chamber of Commerce and visited the Lima Stock Exchange. (Apart from doing some memorable cultural things in colonial downtown Lima.)
As you may know, Peru is enjoying an economic boom based on demand for its metals and minerals from China and Switzerland. The optimism in the air is palpable.
It was a promising trip, and we hope this is just the start of our activities in Peru and elsewhere in Latin America."
