DEPARTMENT/COUNTRY PROGRAM DESCRIPTION/MISSION
The purpose of the organization is to be transformative in the lives of the people it touches - including all supporters. Engagement staff works with supporters and potential partners to make their work with the American Refugee Committee meaningful and to empower them to organize and act using their individual agency.

The Development & Public Affairs department ambitiously advances the work of the American Refugee Committee by actively engaging individual donors, supporters, and corporate and foundation partners in a way that is meaningful to them and promotes the American Refugee Committee's work with refugees worldwide.

Team members actively work to expand numbers of supporters and partners, promote the organization's purpose, raise the agency profile, raise critical unrestricted annual funds, and raise strategic restricted funds.

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
As a member of the Development & Public Affairs team, the Engagement Intern will be heavily focused on events - assisting the Engagement Coordinators with event-related tasks. The American Refugee Committee sets a very high bar for all engagements - events are engagement-focused, meaningful and incredibly professional. The Engagement Intern will assist in implementing and managing two major events this summer and fall - the 2012 Summer Facebook campaign and the 2012 Run to Unite 5K.

The Engagement Intern may also be asked to contribute to other engagement projects on a planning and implementation level.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will be responsible for assisting and supporting the Event Manager with American Refugee Committee events this summer and fall.

Event related responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Assist in general public outreach to promote event, encourage fundraising and to register participants

Assist event manager with facilitation of event sponsorship and solicitation of in-kind donations

Provide administrative support, including, but not limited to: ordering & picking up event supplies, tracking registrant data and assisting with all guest and donor correspondence

Assist in miscellaneous projects as needed in preparation for and facilitation of event

Assist in volunteer recruitment and following correspondence

Attend event to assist in managing details the day of, including, but not limited to: Event set-up, logistical oversight, volunteer management, and event tear-down

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent organizational skills: the ability to work productively in a super fast-paced environment + the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Event coordination experience preferred

Excellent interpersonal skills: the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically. Ability to establish productive relationships with all kinds of people

Detail oriented: consistently strives for accuracy

Comfortable and professional representing the American Refugee Committee publicly

Some college preferred
