Open Positions
Director of Programs
Posted on August 1, 2012
This is a new position that will be part of Bolder Giving's management team along with the executive director and to-be-hired director of development and communications. This person will work with the ED to develop and manage the program activities of Bolder Giving and manage the BG program team. Key responsibilities will include:
Program Development & Partner Cultivation - Working with the executive director and program team, the director of programs will develop both short- and long-term program plans for the organization and identify new opportunities for growth. Additionally, the director of programs will play a primary role in identifying and cultivating new program, syndication and promotion partners to expand both the depth and breadth of Bolder Giving's work.
Team Management - The director of programs will supervise and support the program team, helping each team member develop and carry out the program responsibilities they are leading and engaging the full team in support of organization-wide program priorities. The program team includes the associate director of programs (half time), director of special projects (half time), program coordinator (full time), and a new program associate (will be full time and focused on the new national Give Out Day campaign).
Program Management - In addition to managing and supporting the work done by the program team, the director of programs will also be directly responsible for a set of program activities, which at the present time include managing two key program partnerships, our syndication program, our LGBTQ Equality initiative, and the new Give Out Day campaign (with the full-time support of a new Program Associate).
Organizational Management - Each member of the management team, depending on their skills and workload, will also work with the executive director on one or more areas of discrete organizational management. Possible tasks include organizational evaluation, staff training and development, board development and support, and annual budgeting.
Director of Development & Communications

This is a new position that will be part of Bolder Giving's management team along with the executive director and to-be-hired director of programs. This person will work with the ED to develop and manage Bolder Giving's development and communications activities and manage BG's development and communications team. Key responsibilities will include:
Development - Work with the executive director to design and coordinate Bolder Giving's fundraising activities. While our ED currently does the vast majority of donor cultivation/solicitation, we're looking for someone who can help share these responsibilities and manage the internal fundraising activities of the organization. This would include activities such as: co-developing our fundraising strategy, engaging in individual donor and foundation cultivation and stewardship, designing and executing our annual and online fundraising appeals, leading new prospect research efforts, coordinating donor acknowledgement and tracking, and managing our overall fundraising efforts.
Communications - Work with the executive director and program team to design and lead our communications activities. In essence Bolder Giving IS a communications organization - we profile inspiring donors and develop tools/resources to support people's giving and then push those stories, tools, and resources out to a wide range of audiences. We are looking for someone with both traditional and digital communications experience who is excited to utilize those skills to promote our program activities. This would include activities such as: co-developing our communications strategy, maintaining and evolving our websites (boldergiving.org and morethanmoney.org) with support from our web design firm, sustaining and expanding our social media activities, managing our media outreach, and managing or directly carrying out the design and production of new materials.
Organizational Management - Each member of the management team, depending on their skills and workload, will also work with the executive director on one or more areas of discrete organizational management. Possible tasks include organizational evaluation, staff training and development, board development and support, and annual budgeting.
Program Associate
Posted on August 1, 2012
This new position will report to the director of programs and primarily be focused on developing and coordinating our new national Give Out Day campaign, part of Bolder Giving's LGBTQ Equality Initiative. Give Out is a new national campaign aiming to mobilize giving by individuals on a single day across the country to the LGBTQ nonprofit community. With seed funding from the Kevin Mossier Foundation, Bolder Giving is excited to launch this new entrepreneurial program to help leverage new ongoing support for the LGBT community across the country. Give Out will be breaking new ground as it adapts a fundraising model that has proven successful for inspiring donors to "give big" through local and state multi-issue campaigns to a national single-issue focus. Working with the executive director, director of programs, program team, and Give Out Day partners Razoo and Forward Motion, key responsibilities for the program associate will include:
Nonprofit Outreach - Coordinate the team's efforts to engage individual nonprofits in Give Out through direct outreach, mailings to identified LGBT groups, outreach at key LGBT conferences and through key networks, and outreach via LGBT grantmakers to their grantees.
Campaign Management - Co-develop and coordinate the Give Out Day campaign plan including tracking assignments among all member of the Give Out Day team, managing volunteers for lead-up and day-of activities, regular briefings to the team on the campaign status, and monitoring progress on key evaluation metrics.
Sponsor Engagement - Sponsorship for Give Out is about incentivizing participation - both of organizations and donors - and driving traffic on the actual day of the event. The program associate will support Bolder Giving's leadership in identifying sponsor prospects and preparing for sponsorship meetings with mainstream corporations, LGBT-owned businesses, foundations and individual major donors.
Material and Portal Development - Support the Give Out team and consultants in the creation of a comprehensive set of brand materials, online web portal, recruitment and support materials, sponsor packages, and related resources.
Social Media Engagement - Co-design and coordinate a comprehensive social media strategy for Give Out including establishing dedicated Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts; developing a wide variety of template social media tools for participating nonprofits; and actively promoting Give Out via social media channels before, during and after Give Out Day.
Qualifications we're seeking
Both the director of programs and the director of communications & development positions are senior-level positions within Bolder Giving and will have responsibility, along with the ED, of ensuring the success of the organization. For both positions we're ideally looking for proven senior-level experience or demonstrated ability that you are ready to take a step into senior leadership of a small, growing nonprofit. Ideally this would include at least 7+ years in senior level nonprofit leadership and demonstrated success in carrying out the fundraising, communications and/or program responsibilities you managed in your previous roles.
The program associate is a junior level position but has room to grow and will play a major leadership role in launching an exciting new national development campaign designed to inspire people to give big for LGBTQ equality nationally. We're looking for a combination of education, work and volunteer experience that show you have what it takes to both engage in big picture planning and coordinate the many details needed to carry out a campaign of this nature.
Beyond these general descriptions, we do have a few required qualifications for all three positions:
Be based in NYC or willing to move here.
Be looking for a full time position.
Be committed to the pursuit of social, economic and environmental justice.
Be ready to work hard and have fun - we've got a great team and we're looking to add great people to the mix.
