In June I set out for an internship with USAID/Rwanda at the U.S. Embassy in Kigali. My time here has been spent working in the mission's Program Office - the office that oversees each of the technical portfolios (health, democracy and governance, economic growth, and education) - doing mission-wide planning and serving as the liaison with Washington. As a part of this team, I have had the chance to work on things from development strategic planning and outreach and communications, to monitoring and evaluation projects such as GIS mapping of all USAID's programs in country. My time here has been exciting, being able to see both the wonderful progress being made here in Rwanda, as well as more fully understanding the challenges and coordination required to manage country-wide development strategies effectively in such a complex environment.
Originally, I planned to only be here for the summer, but will in fact be staying here in Rwanda as the USAID mission's new Development Outreach and Communications Officer - so, if you're in Kigali, get in touch!
Also attached a photo of me working at the Embassy's 4th of July celebration -- a date which is significant for both the US and Rwanda as it is Rwanda's National Day of Liberation, celebrating the day the RPF defeated the regime responsible for the genocide.
