CSIS Middle East program coordinator/research assistant (Wash DC)

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decisionmakers concerned with global security and prosperity. Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

CSIS is seeking a Program Coordinator/Research Assistant to join the Middle East Program. The Program Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the program and supporting the program's substantive work and research. He/she reports directly to the Director of the program, Dr. Jon B. Alterman.

Supports the program's research agenda through frequent research and writing
Plans and executes program events and conferences
Helps manage the director's schedule, correspondence, and travel itineraries
Closely monitors and handles matters pertaining to program's budget
Assists with publication layout and dissemination
Regularly updates website and contact database
Supervises 2-4 interns per semester
Other administrative tasks as needed



Successful applicants will have a B.A. in International Relations, Middle Eastern Studies, Economics, or a related field. Arabic, Farsi, and/or Hebrew skills strongly preferred but not required. Must demonstrate ability to conduct rigorous research and present information clearly and efficiently. Internet and Microsoft Office skills are a must. Previous experience with Adobe InDesign, website management, and other multimedia a plus.

Candidates should possess the following qualities: Superior writing and analytical skills; ability to operate under pressure and in a fast-paced environment; strong interest in the Middle East, as demonstrated by previous coursework and travel; sound judgment and impeccable integrity, positive attitude and creative outlook; ability to write, think, operate, and follow up, both independently and on a team; ability to interact with and respond to questions from a range of individuals with diverse interests and backgrounds; and a sense of humor.
