The Global Programs and Strategy Alliance is pleased to announce the themes for its next Global Spotlight, a biennial focus on a region of the world and a pressing global issue. In 2012-14, the focus will be on the region of South Asia and the issue of Global Food Security.
The goals of the Global Spotlight program are to:
highlight existing strengths of the University
build on cross-border and cross-disciplinary relationships
educate and inform the University and local community
identify and provide funding for targeted research and other scholarly initiatives
increase the University's visibility and stature around the world
Global Spotlight will sponsor events and activities related to South Asia and Global Food Security, and in the second year of the biennium offer a grants program to support faculty and graduate student research related to the themes. All units system-wide are encouraged to incorporate Global Spotlight themes into their events and programs; the GPS Alliance is interested in co-sponsoring these events.
The initiative will be led by Dr. Karen Brown, assistant vice president for international scholarship. Dr. Brown also serves as co-director of the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change.
