Program Coordinator, Africa

Vital Voices Global Partnership (www.vitalvoices.org), a leading international non-governmental organization committed to advancing women's leadership in the areas of economic empowerment, human rights and political participation, seeks a talented professional with strong program implementation skills for the position of Program Coordinator, Africa.

Position description:
The Program Coordinator will support the Supporting Public Advocacy for Regional Competitiveness (SPARC) Program, and provide support for other programs in the region. The Program Coordinator assists with the development, coordination and execution of programs in Africa designed to build capacity, connections and credibility of African women leaders working in the fields of Economic Development, Political Participation and Human Rights. S/He supports all aspects of program development, implementation, and evaluation; working with local partners and managing program specific projects. The Program Coordinator also contributes to the development of the department, including exploring new opportunities for growth.

Specific responsibilities may include:

Program Management Support: Assist in program planning and execution, including overseeing program logistics (organizing participants, speakers, venues, materials); compiling evaluation results and contributing to program reporting; coordinating with peers in other regional/issue areas, technical units as needed; contributing to development, revision and implementation of the department's strategic plan.
Fund Development Support: Support RFP analysis, prepare and submit grant proposals, and conduct data collection and analysis for grant reporting and evaluations.
Sub-Grants Management: Manage VV sub-grant processes to Africa grantees including drafting/revising RFPs and report forms, receipt and first pass-review of applications, prepare award letters and report forms, receipt and first pass review of interim reports, liaise with Finance to ensure timely award payments to grantees.
Relationship Management: Support partners and alumni in the region as they develop and implement their local program strategies. Interact with various public and private sector stakeholders and often deal with competing priorities and interests of these stakeholders. Liaise with Hub Managers and other local partners in over 6 countries in sub-Saharan Africa on a daily basis. Interact with peers across VV issue and regional areas; contribute to cross-department communication and integration
Communications: Oversee the development of online content and program print materials, including content for VV website, blogs, twitter, program fact-sheets, brochures, briefing books and newsletters.
External Engagement: May be called upon to represent VV/Africa team at external meetings or events locally and internationally, and thus may also perform more senior functions, including shaping the program content, giving public remarks, liaising with high-level government officials & corporate representatives, and providing close coordination & supervision of a program
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree
2-3 years of related professional experience
Demonstrated interest and experience in gender/women's issues and Sub-Saharan Africa
Proficiency in written and oral French or Portuguese
Demonstrated knowledge of participatory training and facilitation techniques.
Experience supporting proposal development efforts
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Advanced computer literacy. Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
Other desired characteristics

Previous professional experience in sub-grant management
Previous professional experience in monitoring and evaluation
Experience living/working in Africa preferred
Ability to work well with teams and individually
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in fast paced environment
Ability to prioritize work, execute exceptionally well, and deliver high-quality results within very tight timelines with minimal supervision, on time and in budget
Salesforce experience a plus.
The Program Coordinator, Africa will report directly to the Senior Program Manager, Africa and work closely with other members of the Africa Team. This full-time, salaried position is based in Washington, D.C. and may require up to 50% international travel. Vital Voices does not provide work visa sponsorship or relocation assistance for this position.
