Global Notes is the community forum for the Humphrey Institute's global policy area, including the affiliated Freeman Center for International Economic Policy. The purpose of the blog is to open communication between and among our students, alumni, faculty, staff and the larger community interested in the policy aspects of global politics and economics studied at the Humphrey Institute.
Global Notes was designed in Fall 2008 by Graham Lampa, Project Lead for the "Emphasizing the 'Public' in Public Affairs" initiative. This project, funded by a Service and Process Improvement Fund grant from the University of Minnesota's Office of Service and Continuous Improvement, created weblogs for Humphrey research centers to improve public outreach and the . Dara Kay Cohen is an assistant professor in the global policy area at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on the dynamics of violence during civil war. Her dissertation research examines the variation in the use of sexual violence during recent civil conflicts. She has completed eight months of fieldwork in Sierra Leone, East Timor and El Salvador, where she interviewed more than 200 ex-combatants and noncombatants.
