Dear Colleagues,

Please consider applying to be a part of the Women's Leadership Institute 2012-2013 cohort and/or sharing with others who might be interested (please see attached flyer if you would like to post in your area). The Women's Leadership Institute offers University staff and faculty women a year-long opportunity to grow as leaders. Members come from supervisory, management, and administrative leadership positions throughout the University, creating a unique learning community that continues beyond the duration of the program.

Key components of the WLI include:
  • Kick-off retreat (full-day session in September)
  • 2.5-hour monthly meetings (combination of guest speakers, reflection, and group discussion)
  • Opportunities to network with other women leaders
  • Opportunities for self-reflection and personal growth
  • Annual WLI Alumnae events for current and past participants

Registration Fee: There is an $85 fee to help cover materials and program costs; a limited number of scholarships are available through the Women's Center.

Subject: Input invited in search for new director of GLBTA Programs Office

I am pleased to announce the finalists for the Director position of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Ally Programs Office (GLBTA). Based on the search committee’s recommendations, the Office for Equity and Diversity has invited three candidates to campus for public interviews. The three candidates are:

  • E. Frederic MacDonald-Dennis, former Interim Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Haverford College. He has also been Associate Dean of Students and Director of Residence Life at the Art Institute of Philadelphia and Director of the Office of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Affairs at the University of Michigan.
  • Matthew Antonio Bosch, Chief Diversity Officer at North Hennepin Community College. He has also been Apartment Coordinator at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities; and Residence Hall Director at Macalester College.
  • Owen Marciano, Transfer Admissions Coordinator and Prospective Transfer Student Advisor in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Owen has also been Advising Specialist in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas, and Assistant Director of the GLBTA Programs Office at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

During their time on campus, the candidates will participate in a public forum where each will provide a vision for a premier multicultural center at a large, urban, Research I institution. There will be a question-and-answer period following the presentation. These public forums are scheduled on the dates below:

  • MacDonald-Dennis, 2-3pm, Thursday December 1, 335 Appleby Hall
  • Bosch, 2-3pm, Tuesday December 6, 117 Appleby Hall
  • Marciano, 10-11am, Wednesday December 7, 117 Appleby Hall

In addition to the public forums, the candidates will meet with the GLBTA staff, Office for Equity and Diversity (OED) directors, OED senior leadership, and students.

I invite those who are interested to meet each candidate during the public forums, to review the candidate's materials, and to provide your input by completing the evaluation form that will be available at each forum. Thanks in advance for your participation in this important search.

University Women of Color 11th Annual Fall Welcome Breakfast

Please join us at our Annual Welcome for women of color staff, faculty, and students. This is a great way to meet and greet other women of color on campus, and to find out how you can become involved in the University Women of Color community.

 

Annual Theme:  "Women of Color Leadership in Times of Transition"

 

Keynote Speaker: Nekima Levy-Pounds, St. Thomas Law Professor and director of the Community Justice Project, an award winning civil rights legal clinic. 

 

The program will also feature Sol Ras, a Voices Merging poet, and information about the new Solidarity and Success (SAS) Mentoring Project.

 

 

The UWOC Tapestry Award is presented each year to a woman who has helped create a thriving campus community where diversity in the widest sense is welcomed and supported. The Award will be presented to its recipient at this event. Nominations for the Tapestry Award are due on Oct. 7.

The Women's Leadership Institute offers University women an opportunity to grow as leaders. Each year, a group of participants meets monthly to encourage self-reflection and learn from each others' skills and experiences. Members come from supervisory, management, and administrative leadership positions throughout the University, creating a unique learning community that continues beyond the duration of the program.

Women's Leadership Institute activities begin in September and end with a June reception for current and past participants. Applications are being accepted through Friday, May 27, 2011 for the 2011-2012 program.

WILD offers University women students an opportunity to grow as leaders.  A cohort of women students will meet twice a month to learn practical leadership skills that will improve their personal, academic, and professional accomplishments. Each WILD cohort will have the opportunity to put their leadership principles and interests into action by engaging in regular micro-tasks/projects designed to challenge participants and push them past their comfort zone.
