Außerdem läuft am Freitag der Film "Rosenstraße" im Landmark Edina Theater an. Die Regisseurin des Films, Margarethe von Trotta, ist nächste Woche in Minneapolis (folgende Ankündigung vom Center for German and European Studies):

CGES will be hosting Margarethe von Trotta, one of Germany's foremost filmmakers. We hope you can join us and also help us get this information to your students.

Von Trotta's latest feature film "Rosenstrasse" will open at the Landmark Edina Theater this Friday.
On Tuesday, Oct. 19, von Trotta will be available at the 7:40 PM screening to discuss her film. CGES has also invited Gerhard Weiss, who who lived through the film's events as a young boy, and Rick McCormick, our expert on the German cinema.

On Wednesday, Oct. 20, CGES will show von Trotta's latest TV movie, "Die Andere Frau" (2004, 90 min., German w/ English subtitles) at noon at the Oak Street Cinema. Admission is free and open to the public. There will be an extended Q&A after the film. Von Trotta's agent tells us that she is particularly interested in speaking with students who have a background in film, German studies, or politics.

Brief movie capsules:
Rosenstrasse explores a critical event in the Nazi era that for years was barely known: In February 1943, the Gestapo in Berlin rounded up the Jewish husbands of Christian women, intending to deport them to the deathcamps in the East. In one of the very few incidents of active resistance in Nazi Germany, women heroically protested outside the prison and won the release of their husbands.
The Other Woman offers a fascinating look at the parallels between personal and political deceit. An East German Romeo is sent to the West to recruit women as spies. Three women are fatally bound to this system of treason.
