Previous: I believe that leadership is a way to express and grow strengths in a group of people who all want to achieve a common goal. Leadership is also a chance to answer the hard questions like how to treat your leadership position, how to treat those in your group, and how to show outsiders what goes on in your group. Leadership is not a way to express strengths it is a way to harness them and show them in a professional manner. Knowing what are your own strengths, the strengths of your group members, your weaknesses, and the weaknesses of your group members allows each person to both grow in their skills, and find their own place in the group.

Revised: I believe that leadership is a way to express and grow, acknowledge, refine, and define strengths in a group of people who all want to achieve a common goal. Leadership is also a chance to answer the hard questions about your leadership position and the ethics of the group. Leadership is not a way to express strengths it is a way to harness them and show them in a professional manner, while at the same time learning about your groups and your weaknesses.

This week I made very minute changes. One of my goals was to condense my definition down as it was getting rather long. So I have condensed it to the parts I think most important but the parts I took out still apply in my understanding of leadership. I noticed my definition did leave the door open to easily incorporate the words and ideas of ethics. I had unconsciously been thinking about the ethical duty of a leader when writing my blogs. This week's readings did help a lot to strengthen my ideas of ethics and allowed me to better understand how my ethical decisions were being made.

The major change I made to my definition this week was to include the sentence about answering the hard questions, which I got from the Terry article. Terry brought up good questions that greatly made me analyze my experiences. He also allowed me to better define how I want to see myself as a leader and gave some basic questions to help with that. That is why I believed it important to include this article in my definition this week.

Previous Entry: I believe that leadership is a way to express your strengths in a group of people to achieve some some goal. Using leadership as a way to express these strengths shows the others in the group where you can help the most to accomplish the goal. It also allows you to express your weaknesses in a way that the group is able to clearly recognize and be able to help you deal with them while getting the goal done. Overall leadership is a way for each member of the group to find their own place of strength in that group.

The main difference I learned this week between my definitions was that leadership does not necessarily have to be a natural born occurrence. You can learn how to be a leader; but even if you do learn how to be a leader you still need people to follow you. To get people to follow you, you need to be aware of them and their part in the group that is why I added the part about knowing their strengths and weaknesses. One thing I really wanted to keep the same in my definition is the sense of group yet individuality. I am still a believer that a group needs to recognize individuals in order to be seen as a group.
