Last week was a very busy week for me so I apologize for not posting. Most of it just consisted of doing school work. On Monday, we watched the movie "The Castle" in Australian Studies. This is one of the most popular movies of Australia's past and tries to represent Australia the way they want other countries to view them. On Tuesday, I was busy with classes and homework. Wednesday was my day off so I was busy with catching up with my projects. I believe I had said before, but most of the classes involve major projects. They are not due early in the semester but we are expected to start them early. It's amazing how fast time goes by because all of a sudden due dates come up and it makes me realize how long I have actually been here. Thursday I went to see the Hunger Games movie. The premiere came out Thursday morning at 12:01 but I decided to wait until the evening. It was fun seeing it before most of the people in America. I read the books last summer so I knew the story. I would definitely recommend it to anyone! Just read the books before you see the movie though. On Friday, I had a big debate in my marketing class. It was about whether marketing manipulates consumers or not. I was on the "for" side and my group did really well. It feels good being done with that. That afternoon Kerryn, Daniel (other student from UMD), his friend Jacob and I went to Scarborough beach. It was a bit breezy but on the beach it feels really good because the sun is hot but the breeze cools you down. We saw dolphins come up really close to the water but they were too fast and moved along quickly. After that we went to an area called Black Wall Reach in Fremantle. It is along the river and many boats go out there. We parked and walked up to some cliffs where people jump off them into the water. There were a few different cliffs that were different heights so we went to the medium sized ones. We jumped into the water.. not knowing that there were bull shark in there! Kind of freaky to hear that after we jumped in. There were also jellyfish that we could see but they don't sting. That evening it was a friend's birthday so we went into the city to go clubbing. On Saturday, it was one of my flatmates birthdays so we made a bunch of food and celebrated in our flat. We made "fairy bread" which is bread with butter and sprinkles on it. It seems simple and not very tasty but it was good and all the Australians loved it. On Sunday, Kerryn, Daniel, his friend Jeff and I took the bus to Fremantle. They have a ton of markets there where people can buy items and a lot of food for cheap. We walked around the markets and then down by the water. We ate at a place right on the water and got fish and chips. They have a park with a ferris wheel there so we walked around and checked out all the boats on the water, other markets and restaurants. School has kept me pretty busy during the week so I apologize if I don't post much during the week. I will be sure to post more soon!
