The story used information from another report on the officers, written by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The Sentinel is the only source listed for the story, but plenty of analysis must have been done to find the most important information from the original piece.

The reporter needed to have the skills to find the original story, as well as the skills to consolidate and pick out the most important information from the original.

The reporter also had to change the grammar and style of the piece, to make it fit the purposes of this site, rather than of the Sentinel.

A man on an Alitalia flight from Paris to Rome attempted to attack a flight attendant with a small knife, demanding to be flown to Libya instead.

The man, who other passengers said was "clearly agitated," grabbed a woman flight attendant from behind, and brandished a small knife, according to a Reuters report. Other attendants quickly intervened and subdued the man.

"He held her for just a few minutes and then the other flight attendants intervened," said Stefanie, a French woman on the flight. She told Reuters, "Passengers helped hold the man to the floor."

Police and Italian media have identified the man as a 48-year-old Kazakhstan citizen, who worked in Paris, but his name was not released, according to Reuters.

The flight attendant was unharmed, according to USA Today, and nobody else on the flight was injured.

A woman jogging early Saturday was sexually assaulted as she ran through a Woodbury Park, authorities said.

The woman, 33, was on a shaded walking path on the northeast side of Markgrafs Lake around 5:30 a.m., according to the Star Tribune.

The attacker was alone, and the victim did not know him, police said. According the Pioneer Press, the woman suffered physical injuries and was evaluated at Woodwinds Hospital. She has since been released.

"Nothing like that has happened here," said Ed West, who walked around the lake with his family on Sunday according to the Star Tribune. "It's pretty upsetting to the community."

Police are still investigating the case, and asking the public for any help in identifying the suspect, said the Star Tribune. Sgt. Chris Murray advised residents of the area to be vigilant and not walk alone if possible.

Minneapolis's Southern Theater issued an urgent plea for donations Thursday after finding out that it must raise $400,000 by April 30 or be shut down.

The theater had been operating on a budget deficit, and allocating fund meant for fellowship winners into meeting the theater's deficits, according to the Pioneer Press.

The McKnight Fellowship discovered that the money was being directed into general operating costs, instead of paying their winners, and pulled funding, said the Pioneer Press. The foundation also asked for over $300,000 back from the theater.

Through recent years, the theater has been hit hard by the economic downturn, according to Gary Peterson, executive director of the theater. He told the Star Tribune, "Nearly every show this season has come in under projections."

"A lot of people have had their beliefs and confidence in the theater shaken or destroyed," Peterson said to the Tribune. "All of us are very sorry about that."

The plea for donations was sent to artists and patrons, and posted on the theater's website, according to the Tribune. Peterson said that, though the goal seems steep, it is doable when broken into small parts.

Police in China detained more than 30 worshippers who belong to the unregistered Shouwang church in Beijing as they gathered for an Easter service Sunday.

The worshippers were stopped near a plaza in the city's university district, according to The Independent, which said that the Shouwang members have been trying to meet at the plaza since the congregation was evicted from its place of worship three weeks ago.

Chinese Christians are required to worship in state-controlled churches, The Independent said.

More than 50 million worshippers refuse to submit to this regulation, and worship at "house churches," according to the Irish Times. The Shouwang congregation is one of Beijing's biggest "house" congregations.

The growing influence of such unregulated churches has unsettled authorities in China, who are suspicious of independent groups who could challenge Communist authority, said The Independent.

The pressure on the church is seen as part of a crackdown on dissent in China, which has affected religions other than Christians, according to the Irish Times.

The suspect in an attempted bombing at a Colorado mall has been identified, and authorities say he was released from prison just a week ago.

A nationwide manhunt has been ordered by the FBI Denver Joint Terrorism Task Force, who identified the suspect as Earl Albert Moore, 65, according to CNN.

Firefighters responded to a fire at Southwest Plaza mall in Littleton Wednesday, and discovered a pipe bomb and two propane tanks in a hallway near the food court, according to the Associated Press. The explosives did not detonate, and nobody was injured in the fire.

Photos released Sunday show Moore with tattoos on his left forearm and upper right arm, and authorities said he was last seen wearing glasses, CNN said.

"Last time we know where he was locally was around noon Wednesday at the mall," said FBI spokesman Dave Joly. AP said Moore has several arrests, with a criminal record dating back to 1984.

Moore has an extensive criminal background, and federal officials said he should be considered dangerous, said AP.

A plan implemented this week by the Federal Aviation Administration will guarantee air traffic controllers a minimum of nine hours off between each scheduled shift.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the changes in scheduling, saying that they would not be allowing workers to take naps during breaks, according to Fox News.

The changes implemented also include restrictions on workers switching shifts. Fox News said they will be prohibited from swapping, unless they adhere to the nine-hour rule, and will not be allowed to switch into an unscheduled midnight shift after a day off.

More managers will be on duty during early hours and at night, according to the Washington Post. The FAA said they will help remind controllers to stay awake.

Transportation officials will be visiting air traffic offices around the country over the next few weeks to review safety standards, Fox News said.

A northwest Minneapolis man was sentenced to five years in prison for a one-punch assault that ultimately led to the death of a former Afton resident.

Alexander Tuomisto, 24, admitted to punching Adam Baker, 32, in a fight outside a St. MIchael bar last May. According to the Pioneer Press, after Baker was punched, he fell and hit his head on the concrete.

Baker went into a coma, and died seven months later. Tuomisto said in trial Friday, "I am sure he was a wonderful person. I am a good person... I want a second chance. I don't want to go to prison," according to the Star Tribune.

Tuomisto's defense said he was defending himself. His blood alcohol at the hospital after the fight was 0.23, which is almost three times the legal limit to drive, according to the Pioneer Press.

District Judge Kathleen Mottl sentenced Tuomisto to five years in prison, which is the maximum sentence spelled out in the plea agreement. The Star Tribune said he will also have to pay up to $20,000 restitution to Baker's family.

Three University of Minnesota students were injured when a driver drove up onto the sidewalk at 12th Avenue Southeast and Fifth Street Southeast around 2 a.m. on Friday.

The driver, who has not been found, was going the wrong way on Fifth Street Southeast when he struck the trio, according to the Pioneer Press.

Benjamin Van Handel, 23, is now in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center. The Star Tribune said he suffered severe brain injury and multiple broken bones.

Another victim, Sarah Bagley, 21, sustained a concussion and a chipped tooth, along with injuries to her knee and elbow, said the Star Tribune. She was in satisfactory condition.

Katelynn Hanson, 21, escaped the incident with a bump to the head and a sore leg.

The three were walking from a bar where they had been celebrating, along with Joe Bailin, another University student, who was not injured by the car.

Police are still investigating the incident, said the Pioneer Press, and believe the car was a white Toyota Camry or Solara built within the last ten years.

A recently passed French law banning face-concealing veils caused controversy this week as it was implemented the first time, with the arrest of a woman Monday evening.

The woman, a 31-year-old of Moroccan descent who requested her name not be released, was allowed to leave the police station without a fine, according to the Sunday Times Zimbabwean Edition. She was originally told she would have to pay a fine when she was brought to the station.

The new law carries a fine of $210 for wearing a burka or a niqab, according to the Times. It was implemented as a barrier against Islamic extremism that ministers say "is threatening the secular nature of the French Republic."

The law also applies to people who force women to wear the veils. According to BBC News, this offense carries a larger fine and a prison sentence of up to two years.

France is the first country in Europe to publicly ban Muslim women from wearing face veils, according to BBC.

Several incidents in which air traffic controllers fell asleep during shifts have caused the Federal Aviation Administration to announce Saturday that they will implement a change in work scheduling.

A recent incident in Miami at a radar facility that handles high altitude flights sparked the FAA to announce scheduling changes to minimize the dangers of fatigue from working the late hours, according to a USA Today article.

This incident was the sixth case this year of controllers suspected of sleeping at work, according to USA Today. None of these incidents have caused an accident, but several planes have been forced to land without the guidance of a controller.

The exact extent of the changes has not yet been released, but a BBC News article said the FAA would ban scheduling practices leading to tired controllers by early this week.

"We are taking important steps today that will make a real difference in fighting air traffic controller fatigue," said FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt, according to BBC, "but we know we'll need to do more."

To analyze diversity in a story, I looked at a Reuters report on the Japanese cherry blossom celebration. The story said that the Japanese were asked to practice self-restraint and not celebrate as they usually would, but many elected to participate in the usual celebration as a way to shake off the "disaster gloom."

I talked to Carla W. (full name omitted), who is half Japanese. She said that she thinks the story starts out with something that is a traditional Japanese custom that we all know about, but she "wouldn't say that they're being blatantly stereotypical. They're just reporting on something that is sometimes stereotyped."

I agree, because the story does talk a lot about traditional, stereotypical Japanese practices, but the reporter doesn't do it in a "this is how the Japanese are" kind of way. The reporter simply tells what is happening without focusing too much on the Japanese people being "a certain way."

Archaeologists in the Czech Republic discovered the 5,000-year-old skeleton of a man who they believe may have been either transgender or homosexual.

The man was buried on his left side with his head facing East, and according to ABC News, he was surrounded by domestic objects such as jugs and an oval shaped container at his feet.

These objects are usually associated with women's burials, according to FOX News. Lead researcher Kamila Remisova said men during that period were buried on their right side, facing West.

"We believe this is one of the earliest cases of what could be described as a transvestite or third-gender grave in the Czech Republic," said Remisova at a press conference Tuesday, according the FOX.

Men of this period were traditionally buried with weapons, including battle axes and flint knives, which were not found at the Czech gravesite, according to ABC.

"From history and ethnology, we know that people from this period took funeral rites very seriously," said Remisova, "so it is highly unlikely that this positioning was a mistake," ABC reported.

The UK and Dutch governments are planning to bring Iceland to court in a dispute over billions of dollars lost in the bank system's collapse.

This potential action followed a referendum in Iceland, which, according to BBC News, rejected a proposed repayment plan.

The UK and Netherlands bailed out their depositors after the Icesave savings bank collapsed. The BBC said the governments are now demanding their money back.

Iceland's referendum this weekend ended with six of ten voters opposing the law, which CNN said was aimed at solving the dispute.

The British government will continue to pursue a way to regain their lost money. Danny Alexander, the chief secretary of the Treasury, said the vote was "disappointing." According to CNN, he said, "We have a very difficult financial position as a country ... This money would help."

Two men were stabbed during a fight at the Lake Street Midtown light rail station in south Minneapolis on Friday night.

Metro Transit said that police were called and arrived at the station around 10:30 p.m., according to the Star Tribune.

The fight started with an argument among a group of people on the upper level of the station. According to the Pioneer Press, the group then moved to the street level, where the stabbing occurred.

The two men, whose names were not released, were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, said the Star Tribune. They are in stable condition and are expected to recover fully.

Two suspects in the case were arrested and jailed on probable cause of assault, said the Pioneer Press. Their names have not been released, and the investigation continues.
