I think it would be great to do a group with one writing-intensive class from each of these disciplines, if they would let us.

sociology, geography, political science, CSCL

Why don't you write to the instructors now and see if you can get any joy. What are the timings on these courses? Do we have plenty of time to get this going or not? I don't know about summer recession timings.
