most recent: friday, a co-worker convinced me to watch "notorious" and then roomie came home an hour later with a rental of notorious.
coolest: late night link hopping the day before spring break, i found and got tickets to a week-long conference on dream symbolism.
Posted by steveh at October 23, 2006 11:54 AM | TrackBackis your coolest example a bona fide coincidence? i mean were you searching for a trip, open to a trip, particularly wrapped up in dream exploration at the time, etc.? i'm curious to hear more!
my latest coincidence: i just found out my downstairs neighbor (who along with me is living on the east coast) was friends when she lived on west coast with woman whom I tutored in the middle west 7 years ago and who is also the sister of young man that fargis is currently tutoring.
Posted by: dsplit at October 24, 2006 10:31 AMthat's a lot of tutoring, dsplit.
yes, my example is bona fide. i had planned on going to mexico, but that trip got canceled near the last minute.
the night before i had to leave, i was killing time on the interweb (helps me fall asleep). i googled something with took me somewhere which took me to an ESP testing website. after finding out i don't have ESP, i came across a conference on dreams that started in 36 hours. they still had spots open and a reduced student price i could afford.
at the time, i had been recording my dreams every night because i find dreams fascinating. the guy whose book who had turned me on to dreams was one of the speakers.
i'd say this counts.... but sadly, i couldn't find a less verbose way of saying it.
Posted by: gb at October 24, 2006 10:55 AMHow about this? I was talking with Roomie today on the phone and wishing aloud to her that the lights would be delivered, when she announced that they were being rolled down the driveway at that very moment!
Posted by: Underblog at October 24, 2006 04:17 PMGot a good set for you:
This month's Cabinet magazine (A quarterly of art and culture, mind you) features "fruit" as its topic. There is a lengthy discussion of tomatoes in it in which the following issues are raised: the evilness of tomatoes (in industry and also in genetic connection to such plants as nightshade) and also connections between the mob and the tomato industry (including a scene of throat slitting). There is also in same issue a long article about bananas, one about oranges, one about quirky looking lemons, which they dub "strange fruit," and one about the architecture of beaver and bee homes. These features coincidentally overlap with recent posts about: the hatred of tomato soup by some, the evilness of tomatos, a mobish choose your own adventure story around the same time, and a banana photo, a whole mess of orange references in another post, a picture of quirky fruit in still another, and, while a stretch, a beautiful post about the architecture of ant homes.
Posted by: dsplit at October 26, 2006 07:29 PMwow... my life is cabinet magazine.... i just wish it had a cooler name like The Lady's Man Invitation Only Magazine. Since many maffia families were italian, it doesn't surprise me that the tomatoe has a questionable past. I always eat them first from a salad... JUST IN CASE...
Posted by: gb at October 26, 2006 11:54 PMthis is so weird. I was totally going to do a post on coincidences.
Posted by: fargis at October 27, 2006 12:01 AMtell big D to make it happen. it could be a straktospherian-wide theme. don't let this 7-comment post stop your mighty juggernaught.
Posted by: gb at October 27, 2006 12:15 AMoh, also, the tomato article talks big about betting and the track! where's the lead pipe, and Sue? surely they're somewhere in the issue.
fargis, you're a ham!
