At 5:45 (Central Time) Snickers "Turkey Dog" Hanson passed away. She had been unusually somber the last day, so Dad tried to regale her spirits with Chicken for two. (People food, playing ball and walks never failed to delight her. ) After dinner, she quietly surveyed her backyard dominion one last time. The austere spring air coaxed her to stay out as long as nature would allow. Dignified and clear in spirit, she pittered back to her favorite hallway napping ground, where she gracefully tucked her head between her paws and heaved that peaceful sigh of contentment.

Posted by: Underblog at February 20, 2007 08:37 PMThat's so sad! A nice eulogy, indeed.
Posted by: Monday at February 21, 2007 09:53 AMSnickers will truly be missed!
I still have a vivid memory of when we fed the Meat Jell-O to her that Dustin and I made for you way back when.
Posted by: Emily at February 21, 2007 12:41 PMthanks to everyone... as one friend put it, it's amazing how "animals have a way of sneaking into your heart."
i'm so sorry gb!
i was shocked how very sad i was (and still am) when harry the cat died, so i can only imagine how much worse it is to lose a dog (them being more people oriented and such)
i told you in person, but (weirdly) it seems disrespekful to not do so on the blog.
god bless the people food eating dog
Posted by: koomentator at February 21, 2007 11:18 PMi almost thought at the end that the graceful tuck of her head between her paws and the sigh of contentment was not her last...so sad that it was, and that we're all going there. hopefully we'll have that last 'survey' of our own backyards, our own loved ones. my dad just passed, so it's striking a chord. :(
Posted by: mdushin at February 22, 2007 12:25 PMsorry to hear about your father, mdushin. and welcome to the blogosphere... i see your first post ever was today...
Posted by: gb at February 22, 2007 07:43 PMI agree with the unidentified kommentator: That was a wonderful eulogy, gb. In one swoop I came to know and then to let go of the dear and stately snickers. You made me miss her too.
