Technology Vs. African Americans
I wasn't very surprised when reading this article to find that African Americans don't have much to do with technology. We have talked a lot in our discussions about how many African Americans are not very well educated because of poverty rates. I think it's sad that certain races are confined to do certain things. Especially with fields like technology, where it is predominatley white dominated. No one is really to blame for this. I really liked the line, "What might be accomplished by an education system that truly tried to educate everyone to excellence, not just the children of the cities and the suburbs? (18)" If all schools focused on educating all students to be their best there wouldnt be as many gaps in society but as we all know and have discussed it's not as simple as we'd like to think. There are too many circumstances with inner city schools funding and all sorts of other things that we never seem to think of when looking for solutions.

I was not surprised either, unfortunately. The schools I attended all came fully equipped with computer labs, even back in kindergarten I can remember being a lab available. The kids I babysat for in the suburb I lived in, they no longer want to play with Barbies or Gi Joe’s. Instead, they would rather play a computer game with these characters and they know how to open up the program and use the mouse- as six and eight year olds. Besides the price of technology, the problem is the value of technology. African Americans have been able to survive without technology, but this time is getting shorter each day. It is hard to be able to believe this is true, until it is too late and they are too far behind technologically. No one is to blame, yet there is clearly a problem here. Lack of opportunity should not put anyone at a disadvantage in our educational world.

I agree with you that all schools should focus more on educating students to do there best. And i think that there is a huge problem with funding in inner city schools, you would think that because there is so many more people in the city that there would be more money for the inner city schools, but it seems as if almost the opposite is true where suburan and rural schools have much more money than urban schools.

I agree with you. There are too many gaps and underfunding in the school systems of today. It's a shame that schools cannot be more equally funded throughout all areas, it's not a given, but perhaps this would raise the level of education for all students.
