Lawmakers upset about San Francisco Oil-Spill Communication

San Francisco residents and lawmakers were upset when they learned that there was a delay in the Coastal Guard's response when there was a huge fuel oil leak from a damaged ship earlier this week.
There was a four hour delay before the Costal Guard arrived.
Also they had originally reported only 140 gallons of oil that leaked, when in actuality it was 58,00 gallons.
Arnold Schwarnegger declared a state of emergency to clean up the mess and help the wildlife.
MSNBC.com reported this story and had a strong article.
They quoted several important people, and discussed the affects to the wildlife which is important to the story.
They also had some good sources to attribute to in the story.
The San Francisco Chronicle had several more quotes since it was a local story for them.
Also they had it in a very chronological order with times, and more detail.
Overall it was a better article because it was longer and more informative.

Denver shooting kills one and injuries seven

A shooting occured early Sunday outside of a Denver nightclub and killed one person and wounding seven others.
It happened just after 2 a.m., when the nightclub had closed.
The article a few comments from witnesses and family, which added more substance to the article.
It was very brief, since it had just occured and there was not much information to give out to readers.
Four of the victims were hospitalized, two in serious condition, and two in fair condition, hospital spokesman, Tony Encinias said.
The article was short, but informative.
There was good information and quotes to fill in what they did not yet.
This was an AP Press story so the information was the same on every major news outlet and there little known about the incident, except the death of one and injuries.

Abuse suspect at Oprah's school out on bail

Tiny Virginia allegedly abused seven students, the youngest being 13 years old, was released on bail after she pleaded not guilty on Monday.
She had been formally charged with 13 counts of abusing and assaulting students at Oprah Winfrey's school for girls in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The prosecutor for the case said Virginia held a position of trust at the school for being the girls' matron, but that abused that trust.
The CNN article included many quotes from Oprah, the prosecutor, and other people involved in the case, so it was informative.
They could have included more quotes, not just attribution, to people involved in the case because they quoted Winfrey several times in the article.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/11/05/oprah.school/index.html
I liked FoxNews's article better because the headline and lead directly told the readers what the article was going to focus on.
It said and did focus on Oprah Winfrey's comments about the abuse case.
It did not cover it up with promised of re-telling the whole story, like CNN somewhat did.
It included the details of the class at the bottom of the article, and quotes of Oprah at the top.
I thought it was better organized that way because the new information was Winfrey's reactions to the case, not the case itself.

Viking win aganist SD Chargers 35-17

The Star Tribune wrote an article about Sunday's Vikings game aganist the San Diego Chargers.
The story talked a lot about Adrian Peterson's statistics as a running back, and how he broke a record with 296 yards and three touchdowns.
They included quotes from the coach and players.
It had an ancedotal lead because it was a more light-hearted story than hard news.
They could have included more quotes from different players since they quoted Peterson twice.
The Pioneer Press also did the same story, showing Peterson as the focal point since he was the star of the game.
Their article was interesting because they included a quote from a Charger player as well which made it more well-rounded.
They also included quotes from Coach Childress and Peterson, but overall is was better written.
