I don't generally watch TV on the actual TV, but most of the time I watch it on the internet.
Day of Television, Sunday:
Brothers and Sisters (ABC): My roommate and I are addicted to this show. GUILTY PLEASURE, seriously. We are so intertwined in the lives of the Brother and Sisters gang, it feels like our brother-in-law is running for president. The reason why I like this show is that it's so unrealistically realistic it's scary. Nobodies family is quite that perfect and quite that screwed up at the same time. They seem like the ideal family, all very attractive, they're never struggling for money. But then you begin to realize that they all have their own problems: infidelity, drug addiction, being gay (which I don't consider a problem at all, but that seems to be Kevin's only problem).
This show offers an unrealistic idea of what life is, which is why it's so good and so bad at the same time. It's good in a bad way. I do want to say though, that as far as a reality-themed sitcom can go, this one has a pretty good base on making their problems mundane. So, in this episode, Kevin is boring, Sarah is divorced, Nora likes a Republican, Kitty becomes a “mother,” etc. etc.
Notes from the Underbelly (ABC): I watch this show religiously, every week, and when the show ended for the writer's strike, it made me sad. It's a show about a man and his wife living life and having babies. The wife, Lauren, is not excited about becoming a parent, while her husband, Andrew, wants children really bad. On this episode Lauren is trying to pamper Andrew before the baby is born. She enlists her wealthy, single, playgirl friend Cooper to arrange something exciting. Lauren goes to make sure that Andrew is having a good time and she goes into labor. After the birth, Lauren bonds with her baby.
I like this show because it's funny and boring. However, I do not like how they negatively arrange Lauren's character as a bad woman because she doesn't want a baby. When she gets pregnant they continue to show her apathy towards motherhood. However, when the baby is born, maternal instinct kicks in and life is “good.”
My Super Sweet 16 (MTV): On this episode (as all), a girl turning 16 has a lavish party for her birthday. Her parents are wealthy, they own an entertainment facility and they “love” their daughter. Lacey lives a nice life, she has beach houses and an “open check” policy. Money is no object in her house. She is flown to Las Vegas to pick out her dress. For her party she has hundreds of her “closest friends” bussed to her facility to party at a carnival.
I hate this show. It's awful. The girls are bitchy and overbearing and selfish. They get what they want and when their parents disagree, they whine until they're redeemed what they want. They all get cars. But, I like this show, it's entertaining. It allows me to fantasize.
