mmmm...television.
Alright, here goes.
30 Rock, Season 1 - Tracy Does Conan
Likes:
I love this show, because it has smart writing, and I'm constantly laughing. This episode is no different, and I really like that Liz (Tina Fey) is the main character, and the main writer for TGS. Jack is hilarious in this episode as well. Tracy Jordan is off his medication, and hilarity ensues. The two african american characters in the show are two very different characters.
Dislikes:
I'm not sure what to make of Tracy Jordan, because I feel like they may be playing into some stereotypes of male african american actors. Jack's character also is continuously implying that Liz Lemon isn't feminine enough. When she says she needs a cookie because she donated blood, Jack says "oh, does giving blood burn calories?" as though she shouldn't be eating the cookie otherwise. (I still laughed at this though...)
My So-Called Life, Episode 12: Self-Esteem
Likes:
I just really like Angela Chase's character, and I think that it's a pretty honest look at what high school is like. The different social groups and their interactions are pretty accurate. I really liked that near the end of the episode, Angela doesn't let Jordan continue to use her.
Dislikes:
Even though I love Jordan (or maybe just Jared Leto...), it's hard for me to really like his character because he sees no problem in using Angela. There are a few moments in this episode where I want to laugh, because the family interactions are really corny, as well as some of the conversations between Jordan and Angela. I really like Rickie's character, but they crammed most of the diversity into his character (the one African American character, and he's gay.)
LOST Season 4, The Economist
Likes:
I love the intricacy of this show, and how even if you think you know what's coming, they throw a twist at you. This episode was no different, and I like that there are so many strong women in this show, between Kate, Juliette, Naomi (though she died...) and Elsa. Kate is always with Jack and Sawyer, and oftentimes outsmarts one, or both of them. Juliette is newer, but making it clear that she's a leader as well. Naomi led the crew to the island, and Elsa and Sayid are on equal ground during the flash-forward.
Dislikes:
The fact still remains that Jack, Locke and Ben are the three people in charge, and all three are men. But that's the only thing that bothered me.
