Rachel's TV Post

Blog Post #2

1. The first TV show that I watched on 2/20/08 was called What Not to Wear on TLC from 11-12 pm. This episode was about a lady named Jen, who runs a dog-sitting business.

Likes-What I liked about the show was that they showed the participant (Jen) what style of clothes that would best fit her body type and personality. After Jen had tried on new style of clothes and her hair and makeup were done up, she felt an incredible boost of confidence within herself.

Dislikes-What I did not like about the show was how the two hosts ripped on the participants old style and clothes. As part of changing clothing styles, they also had her undergo a hair and makeup session. During one portion of the show the hairstylist said, “You take care of the dogs and I will take care of you.” The way he said this to Jen seemed like she was in-capapable of taking care of herself. Another statement I found to be offensive was at the very end when Jen was showing the two hosts her final three outfits. One of the hosts said to Jen, “Now you look like a really interesting, powerful, and hot woman!”

2. The second TV show that I watched on 2/20/08 was called 10 Years Younger on TLC from 12:00-12:30 pm. This episode was about a young lady in her twenties who had ‘let herself go” and was having a hard time expanding her business of selling jewelry because she did not feel good about herself.

Likes-What I liked about the show was that she at the end of the show her self-confidence level was through the roof.

Dislikes-What I didn’t like about the show was how they set her in a glass box on the streets of NY and asked others what they thought of her and how old she looked based on her looks. Then they have her watch and listen to what the viewers said about her which obviously turns emotional. She described it as the “worst day of her life.” During the makeover process she goes to a dermatologist, a hair spa, and make-up artist. The final product was her with new extensions, makeup, and clothes. I think it is a good concept to make people feel better about themselves, but I just don’t like the way they go about it.

3. The third TV show I watched on 2/20/08 was called Bridezillas on We from 2-3 pm. This episode was about a woman who was marrying her boyfriend and friend of seven years.

Likes-I like that fact that this show did not cover up all of the problems that can arise when trying to plan a wedding.

Dislikes- I did not like the fact that all the focus was on the woman, the bride. This particular individual was a control freak so little things would upset her very easily. The show made it seem that a lot of things were going wrong, it is as if some of the things were planned just for some drama. There was a particular conversation between the bride and the groom to be which irritated me. It was about the groom making arrangements for him and his side of the wedding party. Well he did not think that was his job to take care of and let the bride know that it was her responsibility, but I did not think it was because she already had enough on her plate.
