There has definitely been a change in the portrayal of motherhood in media from when I was growing up and motherhood portrayed now. After reading the article on the television series, Rosanne, and then comparing that to the television series, such as Desperate Housewives has represented a big change. Even though they would be considered separate genres, they still influence those who are watching them on a day to day basis. While Rosanne focused on the comedic aspect about marriage and motherhood, Desperate Housewives painted a completely different picture. I agree with some other blog posts that I had read, and would find it safe to say that Desperate Housewives focused a little bit more on sexuality and showed the women using it to their advantage in their imaginary world. In Desperate Housewives, where every woman is physically fit and flawless, Rosanne goes out of her way to say that she is overweight, but she still exudes sexuality. The images exemplified by both series are completely different. Just as the title states in Desperate Housewives, these women seen desperate to fit into whatever little cookie-cutter picture that they want to fit into. However, Rosanne seems to rest on the opposite side of the spectrum in which she is not so "desparate" but in fact seems to be in control of her life, though there are struggles, she keeps it together with a little comedy added to it.
